Pitt is Making a Good Impression on 3-Star WR David Aboya

Junior wide receiver David Aboya has the skill set to be a highly productive wide receiver at the Power Four level.

Not only does Aboya have size being 6-foot-3, but he also can fly down the field and run the defensive backs that are trying to cover him.

The 3-star recruit from Milton, Florida is likely to see his recruitment take off in the coming months and Pitt is hoping that getting in early with him will pay dividends in the end.

On Wednesday, Aboya received an offer from Rich Rodriguez and West Virginia and previously received Power 4 offers from both Syracuse and Pitt.

Prior to getting a visit from the Mountaineers, Pitt OC Kade Bell spent a large portion of the day with Aboya, and this rising recruit came away impressed.

“Coach Bell actually come to my school earlier in the day too to talk to me before practice,” said Aboya. “We chopped it up as he was telling me about his offense, telling me about the history at Pitt and how they’d use me in their offense. He was also telling me about how much they really want me at Pitt. This was really an icebreaker for us because this was the first time that we got to talk to each other in person.”

“Later in the day, he came back to watch me practice and stayed basically the whole practice. He said he was really impressed with me as I made some plays on both offense and defense. I was playing both sides of the ball but my offer to Pitt is on offense. I think my relationship with Pitt is really good and going in a really good way. I like Coach Bell and Coach JJ (Laster) is going to be back next week and will be doing an in-home visit with me and my family.”

Bell went in depth with Aboya about the offense and in particular how he would use him if he were to commit to play at Pitt and this in-person talk allowed Aboya to get to know him.

“Basically, he said their wideouts are either one or the other,” said Aboya. “They either have the speed/quick guys or guys that get down the field and I have the ability to be both. He said they like to air the ball out deep and that’s how I play.”

“I was very comfortable talking with him and it didn’t feel awkward at any time. He really informed me about their offense, and he was just a guy that was easy to talk with. It was a lot better than I expected because I thought it was going to be a bit awkward because I’d never met him, but we just really clicked and were able to have good conversations.”

Aside from the relationship that’s developing between him and Pitt, the other thing that Aboya told me that he appreciates is the genuine interest that the Panthers have shown in him, which included this visit and the one next week.

“It makes me feel great,” Aboya tells PSN. “It kind of separates them from other schools that I’ve gotten offers from because Coach Bell and Coach JJ have really taken the time to know me, they text me and see how I’m doing. Other schools do it too but as of now, Pitt has been the school that’s had the most communication with me and have really tried to build our relationship strong.”

Following next week’s visit, the next time that Pitt will get to see Aboya is when he makes his official visit (June 5-7). Aboya tells me that he’s waiting to see what other schools get involved before he schedules any other visit.
