Marcus McKenzie made the long trip from Utah with his twin brother Dominique to Pitt on Thursday for his first college official visit.

McKenzie is a 3-star athlete that is being recruited by Brennan Marion as a cornerback, while Pitt is hoping to add his brother as a wide receiver.

Along with one from Pitt, McKenzie (6-feet, 170-pounds) holds offers from BYU, Arizona, California, Virginia, Utah State, Air Force and Colorado State.

Next weekend, Marcus McKenzie will make his second official visit when he visits Arizona. After arriving home, Pittsburgh Sports Now got McKenzie’s thoughts about his first trip ever to Pittsburgh.

“It was an amazing weekend,” said McKenzie. “Everyone was friendly. All the things Pitt offers is great and it feels like a special place. They really want to win and help kids become the best in everything. They do everything top of the line!! Players were there working out in the weight room and around and it felt like a natural fit! Just great energy and a vibe. Our host was cool!”

“I liked everything. Especially the people. I didn’t realize all the history and players that came through the Pitt football program. I liked the city and the stadium Pitt plays in.”

The other aspect of the trip that McKenzie enjoyed was getting his first chance to spend quality time and have a face-to-face conversations with Marion.

“He’s an awesome coach,” said McKenzie. “He gets  along with everyone and knows the game. Coach Marion is just very relatable and genuine. I also had time to meet with the defensive  coaches and talked defensive schemes. They were positive teachers and had an intense defensive mentality, which I like.”

Before boarding the plane, did McKenzie give any thought to giving Pitt a commitment?

“I feel like it checks all the boxes,” said McKenzie. “I’ll take my other officials just to stay with the plan but Pitt is up there and hard to beat, that’s for sure.”

“Traveling and sharing trips with my brother means everything. We are close and it helps to have double eyes on things. He sees things and tells me and I do the same. Things I miss he catches me up on. I like having a built in friend and someone to have my back. When we talk about things we are usually feeling the same way about it. It was that way with Pitt, we both were like wow this place is somewhere we could both see ourselves at.”
